Greg Poole is a prolific illustrator who became an elected member of the Society of Wildlife Artists in 1991. He mainly makes his “Preliminary Sketches” through observation in the field using mainly crayon, charcoal and gouache. He then finishes his pieces in the studio using printmaking along with collage. He has had work commissioned by RSPB, the BBC Wildlife magazine and the Environmental Agency. I think there is quite a tribal vibe to his pieces as they concentrate on big blocks of colour to create form. I am not fond of this style as it lacks the intricate detail and patterns that many small creatures are abundunant with and is what makes them beautiful and unique something his art misses out on.
